BTC Company has been nominated for the European Business Award for 2011, in the field of environmental and sustainable development, given out by the organisation The European Business Award. The decision jury evaluates and selects those programmes and companies, which include innovativeness, business excellence and sustainable development into their business activities. This nomination made it possible for BTC Company to be included in the circle of European companies contending for the prestigious title Ruban d’Honneur (honorary ribbon). The winners will be revealed on 22 November in Barcelona.

The president of BTC Management Board, Jože Mermal, said that BTC Company was proud to had received the nomination for this prestigious European award. He also said it was fascinating to observe BTC Company’s 57 year-long history from being merely a public warehouse area to its current status of the biggest business-shopping, sports-recreational, entertainment and cultural centre in this part of Europe, with more than 21 million visitors per year. According to Mr Mermal BTC Company had a clearly set development strategy and numerous projects, with which BTC Company upgraded the quality of its services and enriched the atmosphere for all the visitors. As part of company’s business philosophy a special focus has been given to sustainable development, social responsibility and activities, which should be helpful to the surroundings. Mr Mermal expressed great satisfaction in seeing his company’s success not going unnoticed on the European level.

The European Business Award is known as an award which is given to the most dynamic and prospective European companies. It focuses on good business practices, business excellence and innovativeness, which on the one hand guarantee business success, while on the other, they give importance also to social responsibility and have a positive effect on the surrounding environment of the company. In 2010 the Ruban d’Honneur award was given to 100 European companies, which collectively employ 3.5 million people and bring in 766 billion Euros per year.
