At the 6th Slovene forum of innovations, which was organized by the Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Management and Foreign Investments (JAPTI) and the Ministry of Economy, BTC Company received an award for the most innovative business model in the category of big companies. BTC Company received the award for its business model Ecoindex, which was developed and implemented in the company’s activities as part of the business plan in 2008. With this ecoindex the company controls and evaluates direct effects of the company’s activities on the environment and its sustainability.

Jože Mermal, the president of BTC Management Board, said that the ecoindex business model, which offered the possibility of evaluating the company’s actions and activities, with which it helped reduce the negative and increase the positive effects on the environment, was a result of BTC’s efforts and investments into sustainable environment development. The company decided to develop this model, as it wanted to go from words to concrete actions. We wanted to precisely measure and evaluate the effects of all our actions on the environment. Ecoindex’ added value can be observed in what the company gives back to the community with regard to what it receives from it. At the end, ecoindex manifests itself in the form of environmentally friendly solutions, additional services for our visitors and business partners, as well as in a more responsible dealing with nature and society.

Ecoindex is a sum of all the good actions with which BTC increases positive effects on the environment in different fields, namely in the consumption of energy, water, waste, traffic and safety. The value of the ecoindex is a constituent part of the annual business plan of the company and one of the key criteria for acknowledging and evaluating how successful the company is.

In the scope of the all-Slovene selection of innovations, which lasted from April to September 2011, JAPTI received 235 innovation nominations, including 157 innovative products, 56 business services and 22 business models.
