Holiday season opening event to pass in support of women ski jumping

On Saturday, 1st December 2012, around 5 pm, the Crystal Palace will host the grand opening leading into a string of events titled »Ljubno in Ljubljana«. BTC City will be set aglow by the numerous holiday lights, which will also illuminate a symbolic ski jump. The latter matches the dimensions of the ski jump in Ljubno ob Savinji, where two competitions in the FIS women’s ski jumping World Cup will take place in February 2013. With a free concert of the band Tabu, accompanied by a rich accompanying programme, Saturday will see the start of various December activities in the »snow arena« at the foot of the 110-metre ski jump, which BTC erected in order to show support for the »Slovenian devils« from the Slovenian national women’s ski team.

This year’s start of the holiday season in BTC City Ljubljana on 1st December will be marked by the first in the string of events showing support for Ljubno, the Ljubno ski jump and the Slovenian national women’s ski jumping team. Mr Jože Mermal, president of the BTC Management Board, Mr Franjo Naraločnik, mayor of Ljubno, and Mr Zoran Janković, mayor of Ljubljana, will turn on the holiday lights. Joining them on stage will be the Slovenian national women’s ski jumping team, while the popular band Tabu is going to make the crowd go wild with a big concert.

The landing ramp of the ski jump, whose striking appearance will encourage the »Slovenian devils« to fly even farther, offers visitors to the shopping centre BTC City an exciting December programme. Next to the Crystal Palace, numerous free activities will spread the holiday cheer in late afternoon hours (from 6 pm till 8 pm) until the end of 2012:

  • adrenaline Wednesdays invite the boldest of our visitors to undertake fun sports trials;
  • lively Fridays have much to offer to all sorts of music lovers with free concerts of popular Slovenian bands;
  • family Sundays will lead our youngest and those young at heart into magical fairy-tale performances.

Free tube sliding promises a lot of fun in the »snow arena« at the foot of the ski jump every day from 10 am to 8 pm. There are also plenty of vendors, which provide some much needed food and drink. The highlights of the holiday season will of course be the arrivals of Saint Nicholas, Santa Claus, and Grandpa Frost.
