{"id":14531,"date":"2020-06-15T12:40:47","date_gmt":"2020-06-15T10:40:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.btc.si\/?p=14531"},"modified":"2020-06-15T14:30:21","modified_gmt":"2020-06-15T12:30:21","slug":"39th-marathon-franja-btc-city-to-take-place-on-5th-and-6th-september","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.btc.si\/en\/press-releases\/2020\/06\/39th-marathon-franja-btc-city-to-take-place-on-5th-and-6th-september\/","title":{"rendered":"39th Marathon Franja BTC City to take place on 5th and 6th September"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]With the major support of the Mayor of Ljubljana, Zoran Jankovi\u0107, and following discussions with the International Cycling Union (UCI) and Slovene healthcare experts, the Organising Committee of the 39<sup>th<\/sup> Marathon Franja BTC City 2020 decided that<strong> the 39<sup>th<\/sup> Marathon Franja BTC City will take place on 5<sup>th<\/sup> and 6<sup>th<\/sup> September as follows: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Saturday, 5<sup>th<\/sup> September: Barjanka, Family Marathon and the Children&#8217;s Trial, start on the Kongresni trg square in Ljubljana;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sunday, 6<sup>th<\/sup> September: Big and Little Marathon Franja, start and finish in BTC City Ljubljana.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The coronavirus pandemic has temporarily brought our normal everyday life and the organisation of mass sporting events to a halt, among them also the organisation of the legendary international cycling event Marathon Franja, which has been a part of the prestigious UCI Gran Fondo World Series for over 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>The 39<sup>th<\/sup> Marathon Franja Organising Committee is well aware of all the consequences of the economic and social crisis resulting from the epidemic and the fact that mass sporting events and their re-vitalisation will also be seriously tested. Luckily, the situation in Slovenia has calmed down, social life and sporting events are slowly returning, and the partners and sponsors of Marathon Franja have mostly, although to a lesser extent, remained faithful and keen on the organisation of this year&#8217;s Marathon Franja.<\/p>\n<p>Every day over the past few months, cycling fans have expressed their growing support of Marathon Franja on social media and called for its tradition not to be broken, despite the crisis. Franja has evidently found a place in their hearts. In the days when the 39<sup>th<\/sup> Marathon Franja should have taken place (from 12<sup>th<\/sup> to 14<sup>th<\/sup> June), cyclists showed up in great numbers to ride its route. As a sign of respect for this legendary marathon, our beautiful country and its untainted nature, cycling club KD Rog organised the clean-up event <strong>Let&#8217;s Clean Up the Routes of Marathon Franja BTC City <\/strong>(<strong>O\u010distimo trase Maratona Franja BTC City<\/strong>), which was attended by 200 club members and their families, who cleaned up more than 300 kilometres of routes \u2013 on their bikes!
