Highlights<\/strong> of Franja Academy 2017 were: excellent
\nlectures, exchanges of best practices, solutions to connect cycling,
\ncultural heritage and tourism, linking business and people from five
\nEuropean countries and the conclusion that the opportunities for the
\ndevelopment of cycling tourism in Slovenia is still huge.<\/p>\n

On the last day, prof. Janez Ko\u017eelj<\/strong>, vice-mayor of the City of Ljubljana, mayor Miha Ješa<\/strong> of Škofja Loka and mayor of Roberto Felcaro<\/strong>
\nof Cormons in Italy spoke at Franja Academy. Felcaro together with
\nlocal partners from the Unione Italiana sport per tutti received the
\naward for the best performed My Sport is Franja cycling event abroad. Gorazd Penko<\/strong> (director Marathon Franja) and Maja Oven<\/strong>
\n(BTC City) gave the award which represented five free tickets to
\nMarathon Franja BTC City. The Franja event in Cormons in May attracted
\nthe most participants of the four Franja events abroad.<\/p>\n

Franja Academy 2017 featured no less than 38 speakers. Among them Jesus Freire<\/strong> (representative of the European Cycling Federation ECF), Fabio Gon<\/strong> (Italian Federation Amici della Bicicletta, member of the FIAB National Committee), Paco Wrolich<\/strong> (bike tourism coordinator for Carinthia), Christopher Enzi<\/strong> (Tourism Klagenfurt), Helena He\u010dimovi\u0107<\/strong> (municipality of Koprvnica, Croatia), Miroslav Cerar<\/strong> (president of the Slovenian Olympic Committee), Toma\u017e Pavlin<\/strong> (Sport Museum of Slovenia), Peter Dakskobler<\/strong> (Odprimopoti.si), Dušan Strucl<\/strong> and Marko Lenar\u010di\u010d<\/strong> (Hiking and Biking Slovenia), Martin \u010cotar<\/strong> (Development Agency for Tourism Istra), Jana Jegli\u010d<\/strong> (Development Information Center Slovenska Bistrica), Nataša Jurgec Gurnick<\/strong> (Ministry of Culture), Maša Ekar<\/strong> (Motivila) and Dijana Pita da Costa<\/strong> (Heritage Advisor).<\/p>\n

Through videoconference, a live interview could be made with Amedeo Polito<\/strong>, the global event coordinator of L’Eroica<\/strong>.
\nPolitio presented the development of his event which is the biggest
\nevent in the world for vintage race bikes. L’Eroica also has a major
\nimpact on bike tourism in Tuscany in Italy.<\/p>\n

Franja Academy is part of the two-year European project My sport is
\nFranja and is supported with the Erasmus + program. The project is a
\ncooperation of five partners: cycling club Rog<\/strong> from Ljubljana, Unione Italiana sport per tutti from Friuli-Venezia Giulia<\/strong>, the Sports Association of the Istrian Region<\/strong>, Sportunion Carinthia<\/strong> and the Slovak Cycling Federation<\/strong>.
\nThere were 34 representatives of the partner organizations at the
\nconference. Partners also brought experts who gave their views on de
\ndevelopment of bike tourism and connecting cultural heritage and
\ncycling.<\/p>\n

The representatives of the partners also visited Partisan Hospital
\nFranja and they went on a bike tour in Ljubljana past the works of
\narchitect Ple\u010dnik.<\/p>\n

New at Franja Academy 2017 was a bike exhibition. More than a hundred
\nvisitors were counted at the My Bike, My Heritage exhibition where
\nvisitors were taken on a trip through the history of (Slovenian) cycling
\nwith bikes, jerseys, pictures and videos. The exhibition visualized the
\ncultural values and heritage of the sport of cycling, with an emphasis
\non Slovenia, cycling club Rog and Marathon Franja.<\/p>\n

For many Slovenians, the name “Franja” represents more than just a
\nsporting event; over time, the name has become a symbol of the Slovenian
\nsports and folk culture. Powered by the spirit of Marathon Franja Samo Kofol<\/strong> and Mark Koghee<\/strong> designed this year’s Academy program.<\/p>\n

The long-term goal of the My Sport is Franja project is that the name
\nFranja becomes a recognizable name in sport in Europe. Anyone can
\nexpress support for this by signing the petition “Signature for Franja”.
