UCI has entrusted the organisation of the event to the Slovenian<br \/>\nCycling Federation, the cycling club KD Rog, the City Municipality of<br \/>\nLjubljana, and the BTC Company due to their long-term efforts, the<br \/>\nresults of which can be seen in the success of the women&#8217;s professional<br \/>\ncycling team BTC City Ljubljana, the internationally renowned Marathon<br \/>\nFranja BTC City, and last year&#8217;s successful organisation of the ARWC<br \/>\nFinals, UWCT 2014. This year, the BTC City Ljubljana team will take part<br \/>\nin the Giro Rosa for the second consecutive year. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Giro Rosa is one of the most demanding and prestigious women&#8217;s races<br \/>\nin the UCI calendar. This 10-day race, which has been part of the<br \/>\ncalendar since 1988, will this year visit Slovenia for the first time<br \/>\never. Each year, only the best 18 teams in the world are invited to<br \/>\ncompete in the race. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thursday, July 2, 9.00 p.m.: <strong>Official opening ceremony and presentation of the teams<\/strong> at the Kongresni trg square; <\/li>\n<li>Friday, July 3, 7.00 p.m.: <strong>2-km Giro Rosa prologue<\/strong>: start in the centre of Ljubljana (Slovenska cesta Road);<\/li>\n<li>Saturday, July 4, 12.00 a.m.: <strong>Start of the first Giro Rosa stage in Kamnik<\/strong>.<br \/>\n    The route of the stage will proceed in the opposite direction of the<br \/>\n    Little Marathon Franja course. After 102.5 km, the race will finish in<br \/>\n    BTC City Ljubljana. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The prologue and the first stage will be followed by 8 stages in<br \/>\nItaly, with the conclusion in San Domenico di Varzo on Sunday, July 12. <\/p>\n<p>The organisation of this event is an important milestone for<br \/>\nSlovenian cycling. It is a pilot project, which will serve as a<br \/>\nfoundation for the formation of organisational standards of all future<br \/>\nbig sports events in Slovenia. <\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the upcoming Giro Rosa, <strong>Jo\u017ee Mermal<\/strong>,<br \/>\npresident of the BTC Company and president of the Organising Committee<br \/>\nof the 2nd&nbsp; Giro Rosa stage, said: &ldquo;The organisation of this important<br \/>\nevent wasn&rsquo;t just given to us overnight. We have invested years of<br \/>\nplanned effort and commitment into this beautiful sport. Many factors<br \/>\ncontributed to us receiving this prestigious invitation: the success of<br \/>\nthe women&rsquo;s cycling team BTC City Ljubljana and its growing reputation<br \/>\nacross the world; Marathon Franja BTC City, which has over the years<br \/>\nbecome internationally recognised; last year&rsquo;s ARWC Finals &ndash; UWCT 2014;<br \/>\nand, last but not least, the 66-year-long tradition of the cycling club<br \/>\nKD Rog, which has been the main protagonist and pylon of all major<br \/>\ncycling projects in Slovenia. I believe that the fans will contribute<br \/>\ngreatly to the biggest spectacle of the year. Slovenian cycling fans<br \/>\nwill proudly cheer for our professional women&rsquo;s cycling team BTC City<br \/>\nLjubljana, which has already enthralled us with marvellous results in<br \/>\nthe past season.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>The Giro Rosa race will see the participation of Slovenia&rsquo;s first and<br \/>\ncurrently only professional women&rsquo;s cycling team BTC City Ljubljana,<br \/>\nwhich was established in 2014. Last year, the BTC City Ljubljana racers<br \/>\ntook part in the Giro Rosa for the first time ever. The team included 20<br \/>\ncyclists from Slovenia and abroad; with excellent results in their<br \/>\npremiere season, they surpassed all expectations. Top results in the UCI<br \/>\nraces meant that the team has become part of the women&rsquo;s cycling elite.<br \/>\nIn its first season, the team ranked 16th in the UCI rankings and 15th<br \/>\nin the World Cup (among 31 teams). Great praise for the team&rsquo;s hard work<br \/>\nand excellent achievements brought them invitations to the Tour de<br \/>\nFrance and the Tour of Spain (Vuelta e Espana). <\/p>\n<p>In its second racing season, the BTC City Ljubljana team will include<br \/>\n15 racers from Slovenia and abroad. Last year&rsquo;s team members, <strong>Polona Batagelj<\/strong>,<strong> &Scaron;pela K<\/strong>ern, Alenka <strong>Novak<\/strong>, <strong>Anja Rugelj<\/strong> and <strong>Ur&scaron;a Pintar<\/strong> from Slovenia, <strong>Eugenia Bujak<\/strong> from Poland, <strong>Martina Ritter<\/strong> from Austria, <strong>Elena Valentini<\/strong> from Italy and <strong>Mia Radoti\u0107<\/strong> from Croatia, will be joined by experienced new members <strong>Jelena Eri\u0107<\/strong> from Serbia, <strong>Olena Pavlukhina<\/strong> from Azerbaijan, <strong>Eva Lechner<\/strong> from Italy, and <strong>Ur&scaron;ka \u017digart<\/strong>, <strong>Anita \u017dnidar&scaron;i\u010d<\/strong>, and <strong>Tesa Vilar<\/strong> from Slovenia.<\/p>\n<p>About the upcoming race, <strong>Gorazd Penko<\/strong>, sports<br \/>\ndirector and coach of the BTC City Ljubljana team, said: &ldquo;Merely a year<br \/>\nafter the BTC City Ljubljana team was established, our girls will<br \/>\nalready be a part of the prestigious Giro Rosa race, and on top of it<br \/>\nall &ndash; it will take place in Slovenia! This is an amazing achievement,<br \/>\nnot only for all the racers, but also for all our partners and<br \/>\nco-organisers, who have been striving towards organising a top cycling<br \/>\nevent in compliance with the high standards of the UCI.
