[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Yesterday, the Ljubljana Castle hosted the presentation of the cycling association KD Rog\u2019s teams: women\u2019s professional cycling team BTC City Ljubljana and men\u2019s continental team Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum.<\/p>\n

Following the introductory speeches by the president of KD Rog, Aleks \u0160takul, deputy mayor of the City Municipality of Ljubljana, Ale\u0161 \u010cerin, and president of the BTC Management Board, Jo\u017ee Mermal, the first to introduce themselves were the members of the women\u2019s team. They are actively competing in all the most renowned cycling races across the world, such as Tour de France, Giro d\u2019Italia, Prudential London, Tour of Flanders, La Vuelta Madrid, etc.<\/p>\n

The BTC City Ljubljana team<\/strong> includes 14 members from Slovenia, Croatia, Azerbaijan, Germany, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, and Russia. The team will compete in 105 races scheduled for this year\u2019s competition programme in UCI, WorldTour, the European Championships in England, and the World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria.<\/p>\n

Eugenia Bujak<\/strong>\u2019s wish to acquire Slovenian citizenship proves just how well Slovenian women\u2019s cycling story is being written; this way, the entire national team will gain a strong member, especially with Polona Batagelj and Ur\u0161a Pintar placing higher each year in the world rankings.<\/p>\n

The City Municipality of Ljubljana has for several years played the role of the biggest supporter of the women\u2019s team, the men\u2019s team, and the entire association KD Rog. According to deputy mayor Ale\u0161 \u010cerin, the municipality is well aware of how important its support for the development of competitive cycling in Ljubljana and across the entire Slovenia is.<\/p>\n

For 15 years, the BTC Company has supported recreational and competitive cycling in Slovenia; for the last 5 years they have paid special attention together with the City Municipality of Ljubljana and other sponsors to the only Slovenian women’s cycling team BTC City Ljubljana, which by competing in the most prestigious races of the women\u2019s WorldTour across the world makes sure Slovenia and Slovenian brand names receive the best promotion in front of millions of viewers along the courses and in live television coverage.<\/p>\n

Gorazd Penko<\/strong>, BTC City Ljubljana team Sports Director, pointed out: \u201cIn 2017, the women\u2019s team kept its place among the first 15 teams in the world for the second time. Last year, they even finished 9th<\/sup> in the UCI rankings, which is an outstanding achievement for such a modest and young team. In the four years since the team was established, we placed 7th<\/sup> in the team world championships race twice, which is similar to the goals we are pursuing this year, as well. The team will try to keep its place among the first 15 teams of women\u2019s WorldTour. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who supports KD Rog and who is aware of the visionary meaning of cycling in this day and age. Today, cycling as an active free time activity plays a very important role in tourism, and an even more important one from the general health perspective, seeing that the number of people whose lifestyle is inactive and who are overweight is increasing. KD Rog approaches this issue by organising new training programmes and events each year, trying to enthuse as many fans of cycling as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum <\/strong>represents a new and fresh image of the continental cycling team, which produced some international top cyclists. The team consists of 16 cyclists from Slovenia, Australia, Taiwan, Croatia, and Japan. More than 65 races are scheduled for this year\u2019s UCI competition programme across Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n

Present at the presentation were all the members of the team, except for the competitors from Australia, Taiwan, and Japan, who will be joining the team at the end of the month, and did however greet to all those present via video chat.<\/p>\n

Via video chat, the participants were also greeted by the honorary consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Victoria, the federal state of Australia, Eddy Kontelj, who is a descendent of Slovenian parents and a great supporter of the Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum team in Australia.<\/p>\n

Calling from Taiwan was also the general manager of bicycle company Gusto, Harry Liao, who pointed out that their reason for providing the equipment and financial support for the men\u2019s team lies in the team\u2019s idea of connecting young talented cyclists from all over the world, since young cycling enthusiasts from Asia will be interested in this, as well.<\/p>\n

The representative of the Xaurum Company stressed out the importance of teamwork, of respecting each and every individual, and providing mutual support \u2013 factors that are equally important in sports and in a business environment. Since the Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum team boasts all these traits and due to the Company\u2019s engagement in supporting young athletes, they decided to become the team\u2019s sponsor.<\/p>\n

Toma\u017e Poljanec<\/strong>, Director of Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum team, stressed out: \u201cIt\u2019s a great honour to be present at the presentation of two teams, coming from KD Rog, which with its tradition and knowledge runs an excellent cycling school and pays exceptional attention to young athletes by providing \u2013 as one of a few cycling associations in the world \u2013 training conditions for all age categories in which young cyclists can participate. The Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum team also puts much emphasis on the development of young talented cyclists; however, our wish is to become one of the best developmental teams in the cycling world, interesting for local and foreign cyclists who can then continue to become part of the best cycling teams in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
