An important part of the BTC Company’s mission is its commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of green areas. Therefore, it is their pleasure to join the sustainability project Let’s greenify roofs, implemented by the City Municipality of Ljubljana as part of the European Week of Mobility. Yesterday, the representatives of the University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana greenified three roofs of the LPP bus stops in BTC City Ljubljana.

Last year, the pilot project of greenifying the roofs of bus stops was implemented by the City Municipality of Ljubljana as part of the European Week of Mobility. This year, the BTC Company, as a long-time partner of the City Municipality of Ljubljana, joined the project by greenifying three roofs of the LPP bus stops in BTC City Ljubljana (Zara, Emporium, Kolosej). The project is unique especially since only autochthonous melliferous plants, grown in the University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana, which can sustain drought or high amounts of sun radiation and are beneficial for the bees and other pollinators, were planted on the roofs of bus stops.

Miha Mermal, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer at BTC, pointed out: “A part of the sustainability efforts of the BTC Company are our activities for the preservation of green areas. The greenification of the roofs of bus stops with autochthonous melliferous plants is part of the Help the Bee, Flower Up the City project. This has been co-organised by the BTC Company and the City Municipality of Ljubljana for eight years and its goal is raising the public’s awareness on the importance of bees and encouraging the people of Ljubljana to flower up window sills and balconies with melliferous plants. We believe that our numerous activities for the greenification of the urban environment contribute to the improvement of microclimatic conditions and improve the well-being of our visitors.”

The BTC Company has for over 20 years been implementing sustainable projects in the field of energy efficiency, responsible water and waste management, sustainable mobility, social responsibility and encouragement of innovative solutions. A part of them are also the efforts to greenify BTC City Ljubljana by planting trees and shrubs. Between Atlantis Water Park and the renovated old airport Ljubljana, last year a new green area with a foot path was implemented, trees were planted in new green areas and benches were set up to provide a spot to rest and relax. Last October, the first green rooftop in BTC City Ljubljana, located on the renovated Hall 8 and spanning 1000 m2, was set up.
