The Eligma startup, co-founded by BTC, is celebrating a remarkable achievement. GoCrypto, their system for accepting payments with cryptocurrencies, which was developed and tested at BTC City Ljubljana the first Bitcoin City™ in the world, will become available at a 1000th location in Slovenia. The merchants and service providers accepting payments through GoCrypto are being joined by WOOP!, located in BTC City Ljubljana. The 1000th location milestone in Slovenia is proof that the Eligma company successfully furthers its mission to change finance and payments so everyone can win, and strengthens the position of BTC City Ljubljana as an advanced and fast-growing business environment.

The GoCrypto system enables merchants to accept payments made with mobile crypto wallets and receive the settlement in their local currency. The visitors to WOOP! KARTING and WOOP! TRAMPOLIN PARK can make payments through the GoCrypto system in seconds. The customer simply scans the payment QR code with their crypto wallet and confirms the transaction. This means that the physical wallet can be left at home.

The new payment option for WOOP! was greeted by Miran Razoršek, General Manager of the TPLJ company, which manages the karting arena: “We are glad that WOOP! KARTING as well as our WOOP! TRAMPOLIN PARK have joined an ecosystem based on state-of-the-art technology and customer approach, enabling cryptocurrency payments as a form of cashless business operation. This is an additional step towards providing the superb user experience that we strive to offer. In this way, we enable quick, easy and secure transactions. We also intend to extend the advantages of Bitcoin City™ to our new location, WOOP! ARENA. In October, we will be the first in Slovenia offering a completely new experience of bowling, escape rooms, virtual reality and the LASER TAG arena on 5,000 m2. ”

Miha Mermal, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer at BTC, points out that a thousand locations with the GoCrypto system in Slovenia represents an important achievement: “Together with the Eligma company, we have come a long way since 2018, when we carried out the first official purchase in April with the initial version of the system in Atlantis Water Park, until reaching the 1000th location in Slovenia. The development of the GoCrypto system takes place together with the development of BTC City Ljubljana into an innovative and digital city, which has also been recognized by the international public. The BTC company thus follows its mission as a state-of-the-art company open to new technologies.”

The international success of the GoCrypto payment network

Stickers with a yellow elephant, the symbol of the GoCrypto payment system, can not only be found at Bitcoin City™, but also at various locations throughout Slovenia and abroad. The number of locations with the GoCrypto system is steadily increasing: the system is currently available in 13 countries, namely in ten in the European Union and three in South America.

Eligma CEO Dejan Roljić explains: “Reaching 1000 locations in Slovenia is an important milestone for the GoCrypto system on a global scale. Thanks to GoCrypto, Slovenia is the world’s leading country in the number of physical locations that accept cryptocurrencies. With GoCrypto, we are breaking new technological ground because the mission of GoCrypto technology is fast and simple use for both the merchant and the customer. We are extremely pleased that the system is well-received both locally and internationally, and we expect it to expand to many more countries in the future. The GoCrypto payment scheme does not only unite merchants and customers who want to offer or use this payment option. It also includes cryptocurrencies and exchanges that want their applications to enter the mainstream as well as cashier and payment solution providers and other actors that aim to enrich their offer with next-generation payments.”

Through the establishment of the GoCrypto system and the development of Bitcoin City™, BTC and Eligma are creating new breakthrough stories and co-creating opportunities for new ways of shopping. Support to innovative projects lies at the heart of BTC’s operation. By connecting with numerous Slovenian and foreign companies, academia and other countries, it takes advantage of digitalisation and strives to become a leader in the introduction and testing of innovative technologies. One of the results is also the founding of unique BTC City Living Lab, which offers BTC’s business partners the opportunity to test their advanced ideas and solutions in the real environment of BTC City Ljubljana.
